From the Discussion Document launched in October 1997 at the inauguration of a series of annual President's Lectures sponsored by the King's Fund. The document provided the agenda for the 1998 Integrated Healthcare Conference. The paragraph above was quoted by HRH Prince of Wales in his conference address at Queen Elizabeth II Centre, London, United Kingdom on May 28, 1998.

"The British Medical Acupuncture Society was formed in 1980 as an association of medical practitioners interested in acupuncture. There are now 1500 members who use acupuncture in hospital or general practice. Additionally there are sections for dentists and vets. The BMAS opposes unfounded therapeutic claims and recommends the practice of acupuncture by healthcare professionals."
