- The Virtual Health Care Team is a project designed and sponsored by the
school of Health Related Professions, University of Missouri-Columbia. The
interdisciplinary case simulations demonstrate the role of each health care
discipline in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the patient in
various practice settings. Two Case Studies are of particular interest, Post-Polio
Syndrome and Assistive
Devices (Case Study of a Polio Survivors Adaptions). A full list of available case studies can be found here.

post-polio syndrome Parts 1 and 2, on web site.
Combined Objectives:
- Identify healthcare settings in which patients with post-polio syndrome
(PPS) will be seen in the future,
- describe the course of infection and the site of neurological damage
in acute poliomyelitis,
- state five signs and symptoms of PPS,
- identify four criteria frequently used in making a diagnosis of PPS,
- describe seven nursing diagnosis associated with PPS and propose at
least two interventions for each,
- identify three treatment modalities that may cause increased morbidity
for people with PPS, and
- list four important issues to consider in planning continuing care for
a person with PPS.
