Thanks to the Lincolnshire Post-Polio Network we are able to site our web pages temporaily at this address until we have mastered the art of html etc! This is a great opportunity to introduce ourselves and inform others of our work.

March '99 saw the creation of Scotlands very own Post Polio Network as a handful of polio survivors met near Stirling in Perthshire to share experiences and information and ideas. All of us have survived polio in childhood only to find ourselves faced with the new and often arduous task of dealing with PPS as we move into the later years of our lives.

However, as the song says; "we will survive!" and with this positive aim in mind we need to reach out to others as a network to share the information that will help us to cope better with the changes in our lives. Our aims are as follows;

To raise awareness of and provide information and support to those with PPS.
To make links with other voluntary organisations.
To encourage the formation of a unit for assessment and holistic management of PPS.

UPDATE.

We look back over the past few months since our beginings and see that we have covered a fair amount of ground in a short space of time. So far we have;

Asked Dr. Richard Bruno, Director of the Post Polio Institute at Englewood (New Jersey) Hospital and Medical Centre to be our patron and he has kindly agreed to this.
Entered a constitution to the Inland Revenue for charitable status which has been accepted.
Produced a leaflet; "Coping with PPS" which the Scottish Health Education Board has agreed to mail to all GP's in Scotland. They have also decided to include in their library "A BALANCED WAY OF LIVING: PRACTICAL AND HOLISTIC STRATEGIES FOR COPING WITH PPS" which has been written by one of our members; Vicki McKenna. Started campaigning for a unit for assessment and management of PPS.
Made links with other information groups such as the Lincoln and Leicester Post Polio Networks.
