IDIS World Medicines
http://www.idis.co.uk/
IDIS World Medicines is a global supplier of internationally licensed medicines to pharmacists, doctors, veterinary surgeons and other health practitioners.

Note for UK Residents. It is our understanding that medicines not generally available in the UK can be prescribed as follows. Your GP writes either an NHS or private script for the medicine and your pharmacist can then order it through IDIS who specialise in importing medicines on a named patient basis. While your GP cannot prescribe products whose use is prohibited in the UK, he or she can prescribe products which are not licensed for use in the UK. Licensing means the manufacturer will take some responsibility for the product as long as its use is within the guidelines laid down in the product's data sheet or summary of product characteristics. The pharmacist takes the responsibility for making sure that the requested product is fit for the purpose intended, whether it is licensed or not. Your GP, or any other person qualified to prescribe medicines under UK Law, takes the final responsibility whether the product is licensed or not. Thus, while your GP is capable of prescribing a product not licensed in the UK, he or she will quite rightly need to be convinced that the prescription is in the patients best interests.

World Standard Drug Database (UK)
http://www.safescript.com/
"SafeScript have developed the World Standard Drug Database. This database relates knowledge about drug products and their ingredients to knowledge about individual patients held in (e.g.) Read Coded format in electronic clinical computer systems. Use of this database integrated into such clinical patient notes systems allows optimisation of prescribing including intelligent flagging of contraindications and interactions etc, to help reduce prescriber errors. In other words this is a remarkable tool for preventing doctors making mistakes in prescribing."

The public version of the database available at this site is likely to be primarily for demonstration. It will mainly be of interest to UK residents.
