IMPORTANT NOTES FOR NEW READERS
There are three main colour television 'systems' NTSC, PAL and SECAM. Although there are a few models of home video recorder/players that are compatible with more than one of these systems, the vast majority are only compatible with one system. For example, a tape recorded on a Brand X VHS machine in the USA will not necessarily play back on a Brand X VHS machine in the UK. The Brand X VHS machines may appear identical but the one marketed in the USA is likely to be engineered to work with the NTSC system while the UK model is probably engineered to work with the PAL system. It is possible to buy multi-standard video players but these are the exception rather than the rule. Note that the VHS standard does not cover the specification of the signal recorded on the tape. Therefore before buying videotapes from outside your own country of residence you must check with the supplier to see if they are compatible with your video machine. Alternatively, you may be able to locate a service bureau in your area that will convert tapes from one standard to another. The technical Worldwide TV Standards - A Web Guide includes a table of Colour and Broadcasting Systems by Country.

We are collecting and collating everything we can to enable medical professionals to make informed decisions.
